A very sad day.  June 8, 2011.  The Canal Street Guesthouse is destroyed.
We are heartbroken to announce that the
Canal Street Guesthouse is CLOSED
because the property has been expropriated by the state,
and we have been forced out by hospital plans of LSU and UMC.
Thank you to all our wonderful guests over the years.
It was demolished June 8, 2011.  This website remains  for memories of all our loyal clients,

Come pass a good time at Canal Street Guesthouse !
Sam and Kathey
welcome you!

Canal Street Guesthouse is a 19th century rooming house
that is being renovated and offers clean, comfortable,
simple rooms that rent "by the Week" for the independent
    traveler.
The rates are the best you'll find world-wide. A lovely room
for one person starts at only $160 per week plus tax.  For 2
people, in our nicest rooms, the rate is $350 per week plus
tax.  Special event rates are higher, see Prices.
The rooms (non-smoking) are all on the second floor.  An
outdoor balcony surrounds the back.  The east side
overlooks a pond and fountain and features a Community
Kitchen, barbeque area, outdoor tables and chairs.

You've found a unique place. While located in the same area as major New Orleans hotels,
you'll find rooms that are warm, cozy and home-like.
New Orleans hostels have many of the same type of guests- people from all over the world-
but you have private rooms, quiet nights and no curfews.
It's like a New Orleans apartment because you can cook your own meals in the community
kitchen and come and go as you like, with your own keys, but you are only committed for a
    week.
Like a New Orleans Bed and Breakfast,  we have comfortable intimate surroundings, but
there's no front desk and designated breakfast time.   You are entirely on your own.
Canal Street Guesthouse is romantic New Orleans with old world charm, french doors,
alfresco dining, clawfoot tubs, balconies, privacy and a great ambiance.
Each private, clean room is furnished with one double bed  (Twins
in #1,2,3, & 5) with linens, your own small
refrigerator, a ceiling
fan, small table and chairs.  Local television in rooms 2, 3, 6, 7, &
11, only.  In order to keep prices low, a "pay  as you go"
air
conditioning
system is in each room, except for 6, 7, 10 & 15.  It's
twenty-five cents an hour and $10 is average for a week's usage,
depending on how much time you spend in the room.  The rooms
all have hardwood floors, windows, and balcony access.
No Pets are allowed.

There is a
community kitchen, fully furnished with gas stove,
micro-wave oven, coffeemakers, pots and pans, all the basic
cooking utensils, Iron and laundry facilities. Cable TV and
free
computer
are available in the kitchen. Wireless high speed
internet
shoots out to all the rooms.
Balconies surround the back of the building and it's super for
sunning, smoking or hanging out.
    Location
Canal Street Guesthouse is located on the main downtown street of New Orleans, Canal Street.  We are 2
blocks outside of the central business district and 10 blocks from the French Quarter.  You'll be close
enough to walk, but far enough away to avoid the noises and smells.
It's only 7 blocks to the Super Dome and 3 blocks to the Medical District.   The bus/train terminal is 16
blocks away and Jazzfest is 27 blocks from us.
Street cars and busses stop right in front for easy access to anywhere in the city.

This was our favorite place in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. It's located in San Telmo which
has lots of Tango Venues, and is an easy
walk to the center of town, plus a subway
stop is closeby.  The owner is wonderful and
runs a bakery downstairs on the weekends, so
the odors and free pastries are delicious.
We stayed in Room 2 and were very happy.
